Placing crowns and bridges
Crowns and bridges are methods for placing an artificial tooth or molar in your dentition. They are custom-made: no one will notice that one or more of your teeth or molars are not ‘real’! Our dentists ensure that the artificial tooth or molar matches the rest of your teeth perfectly, so that the overall result looks natural.
Crowns and bridges are often made of porcelain. You can also choose a metal crown or bridge with a layer of porcelain over it. Porcelain looks very natural, ensuring the crown does not stand out. You also have the option of a full metal crown or bridge, which will be gold or silver-colored. These are very strong and wear-resistant.
What is a crown?
A crown is an artificial tooth or molar that is placed as a ‘cap’ over your own tooth or molar. We grind down your own tooth or molar so that the crown fits precisely. The crown restores the original shape of your tooth or molar, making your smile look beautiful and complete again.
A crown is placed if your tooth or molar has been filled too many times, or if there is insufficient support to fill it again (for example, because a piece has broken off or due to tooth decay). To prevent the tooth or molar from having to be extracted, we place a crown. We grind down your own tooth or molar and then glue the crown onto it. Naturally, you can also choose to have a crown placed if you prefer the aesthetic appearance.
Costs of placing crowns
The cost of placing crowns depends on your insurance and the condition of your teeth. For example, if a piece of your tooth or molar has broken off due to an accident and you require a crown for that reason, the costs are often (partially) reimbursed. In other situations, the costs are entirely at your own expense. Unfortunately, we cannot assess this in advance.
On our rates page, you can find a document listing all dental treatments including costs. Nevertheless, the costs for crowns may deviate from this, as crowns are always custom-made. You can, of course, check with your own insurance provider regarding reimbursement. Additionally, we are happy to assist you with advice regarding your crowns.
Placing a bridge in the dentition?
Are you missing a tooth or molar? Then the dentist can place a bridge for you. This replaces one or more completely missing teeth or molars. The bridge can consist of several crowns. In that case, the two outer crowns are fixed onto ground-down teeth or molars, so that the middle crown fits exactly into the open space of the missing tooth or molar. A bridge can also consist of a single artificial tooth or molar (a crown) with so-called retention wings, with which the crown is attached to the two teeth on either side of the open space. This prevents you from having to grind down the teeth or molars on either side of the missing tooth.
Placing a bridge at Your Dental
A bridge in the dentition can help you chew better. A bridge can also prevent adjacent teeth and molars from becoming crooked. Naturally, you can also have a bridge placed if you simply do not like the gap from the missing tooth. A bridge is custom-made. The artificial teeth or molars will therefore blend unnoticed into your dentition. No one will see the difference! Our dentists are happy to help you with placing a bridge in your dentition.
