Damaged teeth due to wear or an accident? The restorative dentist restores your smile
Restorative dentist
What is a restorative dentist?
A restorative dentist (also abbreviated as RT) focuses on, as the name suggests, the ‘restoration’ of the teeth. They repair teeth that have been affected by wear or damaged due to an accident, for example. The starting point for treatment by a restorative dentist is always to consider both the functional and aesthetic aspects. After all, your teeth should not only look beautiful after restoration but also function correctly.
A restorative dentist has completed a three-year postgraduate program following their standard dental training. Only if they have successfully completed this program may they call themselves a restorative dentist.

What does a restorative dentist do?
The primary task of a restorative dentist is to restore your teeth after they have been damaged. This can be achieved, for example, through implants, crowns, or fillings. They involve not only the exterior of your teeth but also the interior, the gums, and the jaws in the restoration if necessary. They look at the overall picture of your mouth and ensure that your teeth are restored so that they look beautiful and fulfill their function properly.
When should you visit a restorative dentist?
There are various situations in which you might visit a restorative dentist. This can be purely cosmetic: for instance, if you are dissatisfied with the appearance of your teeth because you have small teeth or significant gaps between them. A restorative dentist can also provide a solution in cases of dental wear. Wear and tear can occur, for example, from nail-biting or grinding your teeth in your sleep. Additionally, acids and incorrect brushing techniques often lead to a decline in the condition of your teeth.
If you have been involved in an accident or have suffered a fall, this may also have affected your teeth. For example, teeth or molars may have broken off. The restorative dentist is there to restore your smile beautifully.
How do you choose a good restorative dentist?
Your teeth are a precious asset. It is therefore wise to choose your restorative dentist with care. We would like to provide you with some guidance for selecting a good restorative dentist in Almere.
- Read reviews of restorative dentists.
Reviews of restorative dentists can be found in various places online. For example, check the Google results page when searching for ‘restorative dentist Almere’ or consult Zorgkaart Nederland.
- Are you afraid of the dentist? Then choose an anxiety dentist.
If you are afraid of the dentist, you are not alone. There are special anxiety dentists who specialize in putting their patients at ease. They work meticulously and do everything possible to make your dental visit as stress-free as possible. With a dentist you feel comfortable with, you will be able to discuss your wishes for the restoration of your teeth more pleasantly and openly, ensuring the final result is to your satisfaction.
- Ask for references from family, friends, and acquaintances.
Ask friends and acquaintances living nearby about their dentist. Also ask them for their reasons for visiting that dentist: what is the dentist good at, and why do they prefer this specific dentist? In the case of restorative dental treatments, it is of great importance not only to look at the visible result (the restored teeth) but also to ask if your family member or friend can eat and drink without issues with their restored teeth.
